  1. I think it depends on what job you have. If its a job that requires you to be in shape or get in tight places or something like that then whoever wants the job done should make sure that its possible. But if its a job that doesn't require you to be in shape then what do they care what you eat?

  2. i think that what people eat and how much they eat should be up to them. its their opinion and their right to eat when and where they want to. no oe should be able to control how much a person eats, if they have an eating disorder and have to eat you could kill them by telling them how much they can eat. they control what signs people can have up to not offend people. but isnt telling people they cant eat alot going to offend someone?

  3. Jamie like i said it depends on the job. If you want a certain job then they should be able to decide how they want you to act. If you want to be able to eat what you want then you can get a job that doesn't require it

  4. I agree with the new change in cutting back on the bad foods the workers at the Health Department intake. I feel this way because if the Health Department is able to control what kids in schools eat they should have to follow the same guideline for a healthy meal. It does seem a little ridiculous but if the Health Department is gonna make a big deal about what everyone else eats that the same should apply for them. In the article it states "While some health department employees complain the new rules verge on "micro-managing," the agency says the updated guidelines reflect the department's effort to practice what it preaches", and this is how I feel about the situtation that they should practice what it preaches and that is to eat healthy foods (No Fries For You).

  5. I agree with the article because America is a very overweight and we should really make a health plan like they explained in the article to reduce calorie intake. The health plan will help the business a lot too because it will give off a positive feeling and the workers will have a good self esteem which will make them a lot friendlier to customers. The only problem with this is that some people would not be happy with the plan and not follow it. The Government should have a say in what food some public coorporation's but not in small private owned businesses.

  6. To Natalie:
I think this article was about them changing the guidelines for the Health Department workers not all workers in general. And if it is addressing just the Health Department workers that I do think that the guideline should be inforced cause they should practice what they preach and that is healthy foods.

  7. natalie, i understand what your saying and i get it, but some people cant hel being sick, if they're good at their job and healthy why should it matter what they eat?

  8. I agree with the article because poeple do need help when it comes to food choice and whats healthy or not healthy. With this health plan it would help poeple take in less calories. I like the idea of adding tap water to the meuns because when poeple look at that they might choose it.

  9. i agree with jamie, people shoud be able to eat as they please. if they want to grow huge then why not let them? Although in my opinion eating in vast amounts should be discouraged only.
To Natalie: If the job requires slimness then people would go on a diet to get it, if not then they wont, but most jobs dont require a perfect body so jobs dont have a big impact on peoples diet.

I agree with Dalton on the health department helping out with peoples food choices, because without the government's say in the food, people may make some bad choices that can affect their health.

I think it's a both a good and bad thing. Honestly, there should be more heathly foods out for people to choose from, but changing the whole thing I don't think is right. The Heath Department should change to a point. If it goes all through schools and everything else not many people will be happy. The Heath Department should have both good and bad foods. Although, some foods is bad people should have the choice. I was also thinking from a different perspective, if they want the job at the Heath Department then they should have to do this and if they don't they either loose their job or never get it. It is like a hosipital. To sick patients they feed them non sugar added things. Like sugar free ice cream, sugar free browinies. Even in their cafiteria they have a choice of heathly or non heathly.

    Off of dalton,
If they have tap water do you think they should have sugar free flavors? (like the things you buy at wal-mart to make your water a flavor?) because sometimes resturants or other places tap water doesn't taste so great.

  13. I agree with Jordan because if the government doesn't step in and do something poeple will lose control of what healthy and nonhealthy.

  14. I like the idea of the health department trying to improve their employee's health with healthier foods. It makes sense. If you're working for the health department, aren't you supposed to take your own advice about health and be healthy? I mean, right now it's not shocking that people in that department aren't, but they need to be. But it's that person's choice whether or not they eat healthy, and you shouldn't force them in that way to be healthy. Yeah, it's good if you encourage them, and it is good if you get them healthier foods, but it is still their choice.

And I agree with Jamie's comment, it could be offensive to some people. But really, the health department isn't putting on a good image if they aren't healthy. It is up to that person what they eat, yeah, but they can at least help the health department. Although, that doesn't mean forcing them to eat healthier is right.

  15. the health department should be health its an oxymoron. An unhealthy health department??? does that make sense i mean yeah they should hav a choice in food but its not lik they cant bring McDonald to work or something but if your going to hav a health department they should be health it would (or is) sending mixed messages

    Unhealthy Health Department??

  16. I think that it should be up to the people in the job to make their own decision about what they eat. I see what their intentions are in lowering the amount of calories since America is already so obiese, but if the job requires you to be physically fit than the people in the job would probably choose not to eat unhealthy foods as much anyway.

My opinion on the government controlled revised is that I agree to it to a certain degree. What I mean is that the healthy food choices I completely agree with, and the changing of hobbies is fine too; but the fact that they are making employees change seems a bit too much.
For instance, "employees are required to adopt good personal and office hygiene habits' shows that employees don't have a say in this change. I mean sure it will probably work out for the best, but I don't think its right to force our employees to change their habits just for their jobs. I worry about the spread of these changes, schools are under the health department and if they can do this to their employees, they can probably do it to students.

    To Kayleigh Rogers.

I believe your commment is properly dressed to the Health Department, as others are revolving around other businesses. Your comment is good and really explains what you think.

I agree with jamie responding to natalie because some people do have health problems and maybe they can't help being over weight. I know people that have things wrong with them but they are fit and they dont look it. Maybe they can do the job? It doesnt all have to do with what they look like?. If the food they eat affects them then yes, they shouldn't be allowed but if its from health then i disagree with you.

My opinion on the new food regulations

Here is my opinion on the new regulations. I don't agree with them. I believe people should be aloud to choose what they want to eat and wear. It is not
any ones job to take citizens freedoms away. Who gave anyone the right to regulate our diets? For example on what these people are no longer aloud to eat or wear is:
No deep-fried foods served at agency lunches. No cookies and cakes at the same time. And no beverages over 25 calories per ounce, employees are required to adopt good personal and office hygiene habits, namely by avoiding wearing smelly products, eavesdropping and putting up signs co-workers may deem offensive.
That is vary strict rules just to work somewhere. My opinion is to say no don't allow this to happen to our work force. Besides the freedoms healthy food is expensive and some people can't afford to pay for these foods. This has been my opinion, what do you think?

  21. matt i agree with what you said. but what do you think about the other things the health department is limiting?

  22. i agree with this article, because if the health department cut down on bad food, then maybe other bossiness will start to. If people start eating better then i think they will feel better in what they are doing and are nicer. What you eat depends on how you act around other people. There are so many problems from eating bad food, do you really need to be eating them when your life may be at risk. i also think that it is us the people who need to make the choice if we should cut down on bad food or just keep eating.

Natalie: Even though the job doesn't require you to eat healthy, does it really mean you have to eat the bad food. i know that there are places that tell you to eat the right food but what happens if that person starts to eat food that's not good what will happen then. it should just matter what what you are eating then what your job wants you to eat.

Its a good idea but at the same time how are they going to control what and when people eat out side of work or school. 90% of what people eat come from home or when they go some where to eat. Lunch here is discusting I dont blame the people who dont want to eat it so they buy snack food instead and same with people at work government can try to regulate what people eat but in the end it probly is'nt going to work.

  24. Governments should not be allowed to restrict people on what foods they eat. People should be allowed to eat what they want. It's their body and life, not the governments. So I think it is unfair that they're trying to restrict certain foods from people at their work place. They're at work so I think that if they want to have a little sweet after their long day at work, the government should have no control on it.

  29. Gabrielle DesjardinsApril 7, 2011 at 6:07 AM

I think the Health Department should have to follow these guildlines. Since the government has control over what schools serve they should have to follow the same guildlines. The Health Department itself should be eating healthier because there the health department. But the guildlines of what the Health Department is allowed to eat is a little outrageous like no drinks with more than 25 calories per ounce and no cookies and cakes at the same time is a bit over the top with restrictions.

    ReplyDelete
  30. In my opinion it doesn't matter whether they put healthy food or not because people are still going to bring food from outside and make their own lunch. One reason why I can see why the government came up with this plan is because in big cities people do not have time to make their own lunch, so they are dependent on what is offered at their job or surroundings. I can see the government taking a step towards controlling the obesity level in America, which is very high.

    TO JAMIE
Do you know why the government is trying to control the food offered at your job? In my opinion I think the government is trying to control because reduce people's health care, they are trying to help people control themselves, which as you can see a lot of people need controlling. So the government is taking actions to prevent so much health care cost and people going to the hospital all the time.

  31. I think it is a good thing the health department is trying to be healthy. To have tap water be on the menu when food or drinks are served and bagels or muffins be cut into halves or quarters to reduce the number of calories employees intake is a smart idea. If some one wants to eat fating foods they will just do it at home though, and to not be aloud to drink drinks with more than 25 calories per ounce is crazy. I think everyone should try to be more healthy not just the health department.Yet some things are a littel extream.
